hi guys, i need some urgent help with this problem. i have a 6 hour gig on saturday and really need this sorted.
im getting distored audio with my 4mx using traktor pro 2. ive used the guides and adjusted the latency from 6 ms upto 17ms and its still happening randomly after 40 minutes / an hour of playing.

laptop specs are
acer 5733
core i3 m370 2.4ghz
6gb ram
320gb harddrive with about 60gb of music on it, used solely for traktor no additional programs on it.

ive followed the guide for optimisation with usb ports power ect, no antivrus, wifi turned off.
tried multiple ports and also 3 different cables and it still happens.

any further help greatly appreciated.

as a worst case scenario i have a pioneer djm800, can i run traktor via the headphone output on the laptop into a line on the mixer to get me thru?

Out of curiosity, do you have the last drivers installed ?

Some users had reported a similar problem with the previous driver package (2011_HDJS_4), which was solved with the latest one (2011_HDJS_7).

Yep Im using hdjs_7. I upgraded traktor a few weeks back to 2.12 but everything was still ok. I installed the updated tsi file the other day and its only since then it became apparent. I reinstalled the older tsi file but its still happening.

Should I have dual core support clicked? also under built in windows soundcard in traktor should anything be selected?

Also to note the load on traktor is minimal theres only a tiny piece lit on the bar and there doesnt appear to ever be any aparent large spikes when loading tracks, browsing playlists ect

Did you ever notice any particular details such as electrostatic shocks when the problem occurs ?

As for Traktor's options for Multicore CPU support, you may want to enable it.

Ok Ive enabled it now. No I cant say ive ever notice any static shocks off the unit.

Should I also switch back to the latest 2.12 tsi? One other thing I noticed is in audio setup I have 3 options whereas it used to be  2. I have it set to hercules 4mx ASIO  but theres also 4mx WASAPI and realtek high definition audio WASAPI, should the win built in soundcard correspond to either of these?

One other thing I also noticed is the volume knob doesnt appear to be working on traktor, the mix knob is working but i need to manually turn up the headphone volume within traktor, then turn it up from the 4mx unit itself as opposed to just using the 4mx.

Thanks for your help so far!

The "win built in soundcard" you can set to the Realtek. It's a fallback when your main audio interface is not connected to the computer and you want to keep using Traktor for basic mixing (like in the train is the example given in the manual, section 13.

As for the Heaphone volume control, you don't get any reaction in Traktor because it controls the actual audio level of the headphone output. By default, the level of the headphone in Traktor is at 0 db (the unity gain), so what you control with the hardware is scaled from that point.

Holy crapy! Acer Notebooks + 4-MX + Traktor PRO 2 sounds like a bomb after 40min gigs, move to Apple Macbook Pro and you taste a piece of heaven.....Solid works on it!!!!

Hardbreed,

If you have a USB hub with a dedicated power adapter, I suggest you try connecting the 4-Mx to the powered USB hub (with the power adaptor of the USB hub connected to the power outlet) and the USB hub connnected to the USB port on the computer.

This will show if the noise in audio comes from noise in the USB power on the computer.

I dont have a powered hub to hand but ive ran it for 5 hours today after changing latency to 17ms,disabling wifi adapter from device manager as opposed to FN+F3 and using a different port and the problem hasnt happened thankfully, although it previously had happened on the port Im currently using but fingers crossed its sorted out.

Hello,

You have best luck than me, I've tested all usb ports of my Acer notebook and the problem still happen, plus all configuration that you can imagine and nothing. To keep out the headache and my fingers uncrossed I decided to buy a MACBOOK PRO, now all my focus is in my gigs, not in latency issues! Argh!

Let me ask one thing.....Do you roll up playing gigs at TRIPOD in Dublin?

Best wishes, keep hard beats moving on! LoL

Well the good old acer and hercules stood up to 8 hours worth last night without letting me down thankfully!
Im going to test today on the old port to see if that was the cause or if it was turning off the wireless adapter alltogether that fixed it. As for a Macbook, as much as I dont like apple products its something that Im going to probably have to jump ship to eventually I suppose!

And as for Tripod, Ive been known to frequent it a few times 😉
