not sure whats going on with this, got everything working how i need it to with the rmx with one exception, my mic output is very quiet. i am attempting to set up a shoutcast broadcast using virtualdj pro (latest version).

when i bought the rmx, i already had a condenser mic, and figured i could use it fine with the rmx (i also have a phantom power unit that the mic runs through). today i bought an xlr to unbalanced 1/4" cable to run from the phantom power unit to the rmx. it works and everything, but even with the mic volume knob at max the output is very quiet. ive used this mic for other things before, and generally its pretty sensitive (sterling audio st51). also, i cant hear the mic at all through the headphones running off the rmx, im not sure if this is to be expected or not.

please let me know if you have any suggestions or if im doing anything wrong, like i mentioned before im a pc guy whos just starting to get into the sound stuff. pc specs are listed below. thanks again for the help!

amd opteron 165 / 2 gb ram / 200 gb 7200 rpm drive / windows xp pro sp 3 / nvidia gtx 260 896 mb / lacie 250 gb firewire drive / soundblaster audigy pro / hercules dj console rmx

hello floyd,

1) by default the mic input on the top panel has priority over the mic input on the front panel, so if you put a plug adapter in the mic plug on the top pannel, it disables the mic input on the front panel.

2) the microphone input is not broadcasted in the rmx (the talk-over function is a hardware mixing of the microphone input with the music, virtualdj doesnt see this microphone input, so the software cannot broadcast it), so, to broadcast virtualdj+microphone on the internet, you must connect dj console rmx output 1-2 (where you get the mix input mixed with the music) to the line input of your computer integrated sound card, and broadcast the line input on the internet.

hi maxdjack,

thanks for the info. i am using the top mic input alone.

im not disputing the advice you are giving me, however, i am getting vocals broadcast over shoutcast using strictly the usb connection (nothing going from the output of the rmx to my pcs internal sound card). i have a test shoutcast server running on another pc that im monitoring to test the sound. vocals are coming through in the broadcast, just quietly. they are audible, but compared to the music much too quiet.

hi floyd,

a) to increase the volume of the microphone in comparison with the music volume in your speakers, you can activate to volume reduction of the talk-over function in dj console rmx control panel.
you can reduce the music background volume of 3, 6 or 9db, which means you comparatively increase the microphone volume of 3, 6 or 9db.

b) i wonder if what you call shoutcast is what i call shoutcast.
the microphone talkover function is not broadcasted over the internet (even if you hear it in the dj console rmx 1-2 output, it is not in the usb streaming) if the sound card listed as audio source in the broadcasting software is the dj console rmx, unless
1) you declare the microphone as source 1 instead of line 1-2 (in dj console rmx control panel)
2) you activate the source 1 button onh the rmx (which means you have only the right deck to play your music, as the left deck is replaced by the source 1 activation).
