hi there,

ive got a question on how to connect speakers/studio monitors to my hercules dj console 4-mx.

let me be clear that i use traktor 2 pro 2.6.3 and nót vdj (as i dont like vdj).

i just picked up two studiomonitors from a friend who owns an import/export company in audio hardware. he borrowed it to me, because i want to be sure i can get it to work before buying professional studiomonitors. the ones i have here, are some 12 year old studiomonitors from akai professional (not the consumer cr*p).

i cant really figure out on how to set it up. hope theres people in here who know what to do.

first let met list a short specs list.

pc:
core i5 2400 3.1ghz
10gb ram
500gb ssd
amd hd7950 3gb
windows 8.1 pro x64
22" full hd, 22" 1680x, 19" 1600x900
traktor pro 2.6.3

external soundcard:
creative sb0270 which has two rca connectors which are connected to output 3 & 4 of the 4-mx to support the headphones on the deck.

the akai professional studiomonitors use rca connectors as well, 1 per studiomonitor and i connected it to input 1 & 2 of the 4-mx.

there is an option on the soundcard to connect some rca powered stuff to it. tried that as well, no change.

could anyone help me out here ?
the thing is, ive been using my pc speakers for a while now, the logitech z-2300, but as you all know thats not really good for djing and producing..

thanks in advance.

cheers,
youri

Seems like you are overcomplicating things a bit.

First, configure Traktor to use the 4-Mx soundcard as indicated in the document include with the following mapping:

http://ts.hercules.com/download/sound/TDJS/current/TP2_DJ_4Mx.zip

Once this is done, connect your speakers to Output 1-2, and your headphone to either one of the headphone connector.

That is all there is to it.

Now, regarding your speakers, make sure they are powered.

Hey phatso.

Eh, these monitors are from the old days, they don't have a powersocket of their own.
I do know that they work however, because I hooked it up on my Behringer DJX750 including 2x Reloop Alpha 1's (which I use withóut a computer) and it works like a charm.

Apart from that, I've been using Traktor for about a year now and it has been setup to work with the Logitech Z-2300 which works perfectly. I do understand and appreciate you helping me, but I do know that I have to set the 4-MX soundcard. I use my own mapping so I don't want to use the default one from Hercules. My mapping is built to use the 4-Mx in combination with both my Korg nanoPAD2 an nanoKONTROL2.

So.. I removed all mappings, set everything back to default and started all over again. I loaded up my own mapping, added the Korg mappings, set the 4-Mx as a soundcard, but here's the thing. There are two options to set the soundcard. There's 'Audio device' which is set to Traktor. Then there's the 'Windows Built-in audio device'. I need to set it to my Creative SB0270 soundcard, otherwise it doesn't give me any sound. I set it to the 4-Mx as well and then connected the speakers to Output 1 & 2, nothing happens.

Wonder what I am doing wrong or if something is not working.

So after writing the bit of text above, which I did in Wordpad, I decided to put everything to default again and use the in the zip file provided tsi file for Traktor and set everything regarding the pdf file. Guess what ? Same thing..

Let's clear out a few things:

- The 4-Mx requires the use of powered speakers.

I'm thinking that maybe the Behringer delivers enough output power to make your speakers work, but if they are passive (meaning not amplified), you risk damaging your mixer in the long run.

- Your mapping is not at cause here. What I wanted to point out in the document was the audio configuration which should  be used for the 4-Mx in Traktor (for standard internal mixing).

The Windows Built-in audio device is simply the default audio device (usualy you computer's soundcard) to be used if the main audio device (the 4-Mx) is not connected, so you don't really need to worry about that.

So with that being said, let's take a step back:

With the 4-Mx selected as Audio Device in Traktor as explained in the document, if you simply connect your Logitech speakers to Output 1-2, do you get sound?

Same for the headphone output when in CUE mode ?

I just want to make sure the 4-Mx work properly with components you are sure of. The we can start to worry about the monitor (what is the exact model?).

Hey Phatso, sorry for the delay, but I found out that these studiomonitors will never work. They're dead.
So eh, I'll have to postpone this request until I will get another set of studiomonitors.

Thanks anyways, bro.
