im getting exhausted with trying to get this working. could anyone give me a hand?

the device appears in the devices and printers listings as "dj control mp3 e2" with an exclamation mark and says there is a problem with the usb composite device driver. the same error is listed in the device manager, and neither the bulk nor midi devices appear in the sound controllers subsection. the dj control panel has a red cross

ive tried everything i can think of:
tried the 1.0.0.4 and 1.0.0.6 installations; followed every installation/troubleshooting instruction online; tried to install in compatibility mode; disabled all firewalls; and ignored the connection instruction in an attempt to install the drivers manually.

i know that people have managed to install the drivers with the default disk alone, so this might be a problem specific to this new dell that im using.

would you have the possibility to try installing the controller on another computer, just to rule out the possibility of a hardware defect ?

you could also try a manual installation:

- from the device manager, right-cick on one of the components with the exclamation mark, and select update driver software

- next, click browse my computer ..., then let me pick a driver from a list...

- from the follow window, click have disk..., then point the installer to the following folder:

c:program filesherculesaudiodj console seriesdrivers

coming back to the previous window, the appropriate component name should be displayed. click next to proceed with the installation.

see if this helps.

thanks for getting back to me phatso!

ive managed to install it immediately on a friends imac so that rules out hardware defects.

after installation, the only device that appears is the usb composite device. tried to have disk the hercules directory drivers for that, but i weirdly received this error:

"the folder you specified doesnt contain a compatible software driver for your device. if the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with windows for x64-based systems."

odd because theres an amd64 directory containing all the .dlls in that folder -- and the .sys files seem to be associated to that, so im guessing that the usb composite device only functions with the standard windows driver.

i get a "this device cannot start. (code 10)" error on the usb composite device. the dj control isnt being routed through a usb hub so there shouldnt be any power issues. maybe its because these midi and bulk devices arent appearing in the device manager? perhaps its a result of these usb 3.0 ports? long shot.

so you have usb 3.0 ports on this computer ?

are you sure the drivers for these ports are installed? the usb composite device could be related to that...that would explain why pointing it to the dj driver folder gives you that error message.

for example, is the usb composite device present (with an error) in device manager even if the mp3 e2 is not connected to the computer?

im guessing you must have "standard" usb 2.0 ports as well ? same results when connecting the controller to them ?

perfect! that actually was the problem. i didnt think there would be any backwards compatibility problems with usb 3.0 ports since all my other 2.0 devices are recognised perfectly. but this xps 15 laptop has a usb 2.0/esata slot that i wasnt even aware of, and it managed to install immediately.

thanks for the help!

Only 3.0 ports ?? I find that hard to believe. What's the maker/model ?

Only NEC/Renesas USB 3.0 controllers present a problem at the moment. No issues have been reported with Fresco controllers.

We're currently working on fixing these issues (which should be released soon in the next drivers), but if you do have an NEC/Renesas controllers, I would recommend checking the computer manufacturer web site for a Firmware update (the latest being v3027, which looks to improve device support).

Hello Crimespree,

The issue mentionned here is not the same as yours:

1 - you are short of available USB ports on your computer: you must
- take a powered USB high speed hub (a USB high speed hub which has a power adapter)
- connect this high speed USB hub on the remaining USB port on your computer,
- connect your peripherals to this powered hub: mouse, DJ controller, external hard drive....

2 - What Phatso mentionned was an issue on early USB 3.0 ports lacking some USB 3 drivers. This issue has apparently disappeared, probably because today's computers delivered with USB 3.0 ports no longer lack these USB 3 drivers.

3 - There is no cord to connect a USB controller on a sata port.

Any USB cables will work with a eSATA/USB Combo ports. Simply be a little careful when making the connection, as the port feel a little more fragile than regular USB ports.

As it is the case with USB 3.0, check with Dell to make sure you have the latest driver available for this port.
