installing the hercules mk2 console on my dell dimension 9150 (xp, sp3), i get the following message:
feauture transfer error
feature: defaultfeature
component: webupdater
file:
error: catastrophic failure
ive tried installing several versions of the driver (2009/2010/2011), but i get the same message. ive also tried installing it with my firewall and internet disconnected/abled, but no luck.
the message appears at the end of the installation.
does anyone have an idea of how to fix this? i recently re-installed my windows xp media center edition.

This type of error could be due to an InstallShield error produced by the installation program that Hercules DJ drivers uses for installation.
According to InstallShield, “A "feature transfer error" occurs when the Update Service is enabled using InstallShield 10.5. The installation works perfectly fine before the Update Service is enabled. This error occurs on an Update installation, when the previous version did not have Update Service.”
Solution
Disable all update checking for all InstallShield related products. The procedure for doing so is explained in this InstallShield knowledge base posting:

Thanks for your the reply. I've downloaded and installed Installshield's Update Manager, but when I run it, the list of programs currently enabled using update manager remains empty.
I have managed to 'save' the MK2 driver. Upon receiving the feature transfer error message, I went into explorer and moved the installed folder to the root of my harddrive. After clicking the message I moved it back. The driver is installed, but I can't access the control panel (and set it to ASIO).
Something's obviously not working properly, but I can't figure out what it is.
