help!! in a right pickle ,controller not working

hi dudes 

im in a right pickle at the minute 

last week my controller stopped dead but on a restart i was fine and working

just installed the new update and now  the controller powers up but does nothing.

works using the mouse and keyboard

so brains of britian thought lets unistall the whole thing and reboot , great idea until i realised i do not have the install disk

help!!!!!!!!
