hercules rmx problems

im using traktor pro and i occasionally get tiny pops (short stops) in music, usually when im not doing anything, but happens mostly when loading a track onto a deck, or minimising traktor to browse through folders.

ive also tried virtual dj and im still getting the same problem.

my laptop is a dell vostro 1700, intel core 2 duo, 1.80ghz, 2gb ram, running vista.

ive created a new profile in vista and switched over to that and only had traktor running but it still appeared every so often.

ive just partitioned my hard drive and installed a fresh copy of windows xp and im still getting this problem, so its not a software problem, and it had nothing to do with anything that was installed on my laptop.

does anyone know how this can be fixed?

there are many things you can do to improve the preformances of your computer when it comes to audio applications. i would suggest taking a look and applying the recommandations of the following guide:

http://ts.hercules.com/faqs/eng/her_eng_00364.pdf

also, be sure to look at your asio settings in the rmx control panel (changes have to be made before launching traktor).  the most important setting is the asio buffer size. start at 10 ms ( which your computer be able to handle) and see if the problems are still present.

ive followed those steps, but it still happens enough to make it unusable.

its impossible to dj live or record a mix if theres any kind of droputs at all.

download and run this tool

http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml

what you want is green and yellow bars. if you have red spikes then you may have a device or driver that is causing your dropouts. this can be sorted by disabling certain devices in windows device manager.

can you provide a screen shot of your results.

hello damo1888,

1) make sure you have disabled the setting allowing windows to ruin usb ports power supply:
- right click on my computer icon on your desktop and select properties.
- in the left–hand section, click on device manager.
- under universal serial bus controllers, double-click on usb root hub.
- in power management tab, uncheck allow the computer to turn off this device to
save power,
- repeat the same operation on each usb root hub line.

2) if you already removed this setting which allows windows to disturb the usb bus power, then:
- in windows advanced settings, check your power options, and set the power on "high performance" if it is set on another position as "balanced";
- check you get these pops also in your headphones connected to your dj console (if you get these sound only in your speakers and not in your headphones, then the problem is problably an electric power issue, possibly a ground loop issue).
- if you still get these pops in your sound, then unplug your power supply to run on batteries (set the power otpions on high performance), to check if you still get these pops on batteries, to make sure it is not a noise in your laptop power adapter.

hello unify,

if you need help, you should detail
- your problem (stutters in sound, please detail exactly when)
- your configuration (what is your dj device, your computer, your operating system)
- your dj software (name of the software and version) and dj drivers (version)
- your settings (your asio setting, your usb power supply setting)
- and of course what you have done, what you have tried.

80% of the posts remaining unanswered lack a clear and detailed description of the computer, dj controller, dj software, software status, settings and bug circumstances.

apologies! i should have given more detailed, but i had done just that when i started my own help topic and then came across this one straight after, detailing exactly what i had just written! oh well.

ok, so ive just got an rmx. pretty cool piece of kit. hooked it up with vdj pro, mapped it out and so forth but one major problem - the sound.

when i play tracks normally in vdj, its fine. when i hook up the rmx, they jump now and again throughout, like a cd skipping.

if i unhook the rmx, they play fine again.

im using vdj 5.0.7 but i still get the same sound pops when using the basic dj console version.

all the suggestions have been great but none have worked so far.

ive just tried the hercules on a 4 year old desktop pc, with half the amount of ram that i have available on my laptop, and theres no stutters in sound at all.

i have no idea at all what the problem on my laptop could possibly be. ive followed every step on this thread and im still getting the glitches in sound.

its extremely annoying and it makes even recording a set impossible.

I don't have my RMX yet, should be here this afternoon or tomorrow...

But, in playing around with a Virtual DJ demo, this is what I have found works the best on my 2.0Ghz Core 2 Duo laptop:

With these settings I can go + or - 33% on the pitch (with keylock on) without it sounding terrible, scratch responsiveness is good, and videos are smooth and mix/crossfade/etc well.

At any rate, if you use the Auto latency setting it shouldn't change what you've set in your RMX control panel.  My guess is that is the root cause of your audio issues.

Overall latency is dependent on several factors, only one of which being the sound card.  Most likely the sound card is capable of a much lower setting than your computer can handle.  Start with a low setting in the RMX control panel and keep increasing it until you find one that gives you good audio.  Unfortunately this means that in some cases you may end up with some noticable delay between when you push a button and the audio plays or changes, if it's the best you can achieve with your current set up it's often something you just have to get used to... Though I'm sure there are several other tweaks you can do to the rest of your computer to improve the overall latency, I can't offer any help with that.

Hope this helps somewhat. 🙂

Hmmm... I would think you should still be able to set it to auto latency.  Dunno.  Sorry. 🙁

I've managed to get the latancy alot better but my sound is still very bad. Seems like the drivers are conflicting with something?
This is with any sound on my computer so can't even play music on my PC!

Gonna go try and remove the drivers and re-install them.

Hi Spinner, well the muffled sound problem seems to have sorted its self as I haven't changed anything else...

BUT

The problems I'm now getting are..

1. Sound blips every 3 or 4 secs

2. The whole sound going crazy when trying to load a new track.

I've tried following some advice from some guys on the VDJ Forum but the problem I've having is I change the settings in the Hercules Control Panel but as soon as I open VDJ they change back again !!

I've just about given up and gonna try and take it back to Digital Village on monday. (I've had it about 3 months though and not had a mix on it yet!)
