hi
when i disconnect my hercules steel, it is often not detected by windows, and when that happens all usb connects and disconnects will freeze - hence nothing else will be detected. a few other elements of windows also freezes, like the control panel, and its also not possible to restart windows, except by cutting the power. it looks like windows is simply waiting for the hercules steel disconnect issue to be solved before its able to move on
i have the latest driverpack(7), and i dont experience this with other usb equipment
what can be done to solve this?
and is there a way to force windows xp to understand that the steel has been disconnected, when it doesnt detect it by itself?
best regards

Can you provide us with more information about your computer's specs and configuration ?
You are using Windows XP with Service Pack 3 ?
Any possibilities of testing your controler on another computer to see if the problem is localised to your PC or the device?
Thanks for your answer
Yes, it's a 3 year old Dell with dual core processor and 4 gb ram, and running Windows XP with service pack 3
I do have another older laptop that I could try it on, but since it doesn't happen everytime I'm not sure what I would learn...
I was hoping someone had experienced these kind of problems, and knew how to make Windows XP recover from it (by killing a process, restarting a service, or something like that), without the need for a forced shutdown (cutting power), or that it was a known issue in the driver, a known conflict issue or something like that
The thing is that I've experienced a couple of times that the contoller starts blinking rappidly or gets unresponsive, but in those cases I could just reconnect it, and the software and the sound output would continue to run. But if it kills windows USB handling, this "backup plan" may make everything worse if I try it

And does this happen on every USB ports of the computer ?
If not, it could be that certain ports are sharing ressources with other internal devices (webcam, card reader, etc), which could results in power issues.
Have you ever tried a powered USB hub ?
