hi folks
im desperately trying to use my sb aduigy 2 zs pro in combination with my rmx. my audigy is hooked to a denon 5.1 surround reciver. when i mix stuff, i want the main sound to go trough the audigy and come out from my 5 boxes.
that alone is no problem but i want the rmx to function as a second soundcard so i can use it for my headphones.
now i could plug my headphones into the rear output of the pc, but 1. the cable is way too short for that and 2. i dont want to bother switching cables all the time when i go watch a movie on my pc or smthing.
how can i set it up so that the sound goes through the audigy and the "cue selcet" sound comes out of the headphones jack in the rmx?
i tried it in vdj and in traktor pro and had no success π
hello vipe,
a solution for you is to
1) set dj console rmx as sound board for both the mix output (output 1-2) and the headphones output (output 3-4)
2) connect a cable between the dj console rmx output 1-2 and the line input of your audigy 2 zs (with a dual rca male to jack 1/8" male stereo)

so
- you play the mix in your surround receiver
- you dont need to unplug or replug if you have set your audigy 2 zs in you dvd playback software.
ps: i found 5.1 sound not good for music (5.1 sound fits with movies, but is flat for music), so if, in addition to the denon 5.1 speaker kit, you have 2 standard hifi speakers, you should test them on denon receiver (if your receiver is avr-1403, it can support 2 kits of speakers at the same time, it is called speakers a and speakers b ), and you would have 5.1 sound for movies and stereo sound for djing.
hi maxdjack
thanks a bunch for your help and the hints with the speakers. that indeed would work, but i might as well connect the rmx directly to the denon, since it has many inputs.
the point ist to use the audigy 2 zs for sound processing, since afaik it is better than the built in rmx soundcard. when i hook the rmx into the audigy, it will simply pass the signal trough, the sound still comes from the rmx soundcard
hello vipe,
i dont believe the audio quality of an audigy 2 zs is better than the sound card built in the rmx, both have professional digital to analog converter.
in audigy 2 zs, the dac is cirrus logic 4392 http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/88386.pdf
in dj console rmx, the dac is wolfson wm8770 http://www.wolfsonmicro.com/uploads/documents/en/wm8770.pdf
what is better in audigy 2 zs is its response time, since a pci sound card has a shorter response time than a usb sound card, but if you use the rmx sound card (usb) for the monitoring while you use the pci sound card as main output, then you must synchronize the pci sound card on the response time of the usb sound card, otherwhise you will have crackles in your headphones, and you loose this faster response time benefit.
moreover, to use 2 different sound cards, you cannot use virtualdj 5 djc edition (which supports only the rmx as sound card), you must use the pro version.
for audio quality, i would never recommand the use of 2 sound cards if you can use 1: you should either play both the monitoring and the main output on the rmx, or, if you want to use your audigy 2 zs and you have virtualdj pro license, then you should play both the monitoring and the monitoring on the audigy 2 zs.
hey max
thanks again for all the information. i think youre right, ill just stick to the rmx then. guess after all its good i got the rmx instead of the steel! my friend just ordered one too after he saw mine in action π
cheers and thx
