ok, i need some help here. i have tried everything i can to fix the problem and still havent been able to.

hercules rmx
alienware m14x with intel core i7-2630qm 2.0ghz, 8gb ddr3
traktor 2 pro
wd 1tb external hard drive with 3.0 usb
rca cable connection
the notebook power connection is grounded and so is the plug itself.

i had a gig last tuesday and everything sounded fine. this past saturday i had another gig and ran into this problem.

everything on the software side seems to be working fine. the music sounds fine when im just using my head phone. ive tired to connect different speakers, different rca cables (new and used) but every time i connect the rca onto output 1&2 (with and also without the music playing) i get this loud feedback/buzzing noise. ive tried to connect the speakers first i get no buzzing noise until i connect the rca to output 1&2 on the rmx. is this a hardware problem??? what else can i do to fix this??? i need help asap since i have a gig tomorrow night...

thank you,

Hello,

It is probably a ground loop: a different ground level on your Rmx audio output and on your speakers, so that the speakers take the ground level of the Rmx for a noise, and play this noise instead of silence.
As the ground level of the Rmx comes from the computer, it means on saturday your computer was powered on a power supply with no ground or a bad ground, so the power installation in the place where you mixed on saturday was not good.

2 short term solutions:

Solution A: plug your computer power adapter to the power via a 3-prong to 2-prong AC converter, as this one

= in this way, you have no ground on your computer, so you avoid a ground loop.

Solution B: connect between the Rmx audio outputs and the active speakers a ground loop eliminator, as ART DTI

If you mix in places in which you have not tested the power supply in advance, I suggest you always bring such devices with you, as you may alway meet ground loops.

The long term solution is to inform the people where you have mixed that there is a ground issue in their power installation. On your case, the damage was just a bad sound quality, and you didn't risk more as an Rmx is powered at a very low level (5v, 0.5A) but the need of a good grounding is to protect the user from a power discharge.
