just few words to tell you that mixxx, one of the most advanced free mixing tool (free, source code under gpl, midi and timecoded vinyl support) , is available in its version 1.7 beta 2.

as you can see, some of the midi controller configuration script are provided with jscript file. i just had a look at this, but as told on mixxx website, it supposed to allow to tune more finely the controller behaviour. well i know i know... it looks like a kind of computer-scientist joke for some of you, but javascript is not the most complex langauge to learn
- midi learning (i hadnt tested it yet)
- removed bugs
- no more annoying latency when applying a new skin to the user interface

it certainly looks like they have put more work into it, since i looked at it
it depends on what mixxx version your talking about
- 1.7 is only an "upgrade" of 1.6 with better stability, better and wider midi support, latency issues with skin solved, scriptable midi control
- but if youre talking about 1.5, youre right: there were major improvement since it: huge work on midi support, multi channel souncard support, etc ...
