should i exchange replace my 4-mx? must play now!

i recently bought a hercules 4-mx and am currently sitting next to it trying to find out how i couldve already destroyed my jog wheel. the wheel doesnt light up when i touch it, however it is read by my mac. note: scratching doesnt work. i am new to djing and i may have destroyed several machines already becuase i dont know how to set up audio or my deck. help, please and thank you.
