so... steel or rmx?

ok... its time for me to buy one of these things.

ive looked at the numark omni, the vestax vci-100 & the torq xponent, and have decided on the hercules. now i just have to decide between the steel & the rmx & some info from you guys can greatly help me make up my mind.

now, what the rmx has going for it is obviously me not having to carry around extra soundcards or dacs.

what the steel has going for it, is that the kill switch lights have been added, which is a biggie, imo.

i guess the kicker for me is, the soundcard in the rmx. while wolfson has a reputation for decent dacs, a snr of 102db sounds a bit iffy to me. i mean, im pretty much guaranteed to play a bit louder than that now & again.

or maybe im way off here?

wouldnt say that you are off at all. ive seen postings on other forums that the rmxs output is somewhat quiet and that gains needed to be turned up. but for every report similar to this one, i have also seen others that say that the sound is quite good.

on the question about the steel, i too appreciate the leds under all of the buttons and the inclusion of the new shift modifiers and control pots. 1/4 of the fun i have with traktor is constantly coming up with new midi control assignments that suit me; the steels new functions allow me to be more creative. i am considering purchasing a steel and  loaning a relative my rmx in exchange for her dj io sound card so that i can stay mobile.

aaaah. now that does make sense, and herc steel with that dj io will run me about the same a rmx. it is definately starting to make sense. one does wonder whether hercules will start producing a rmx v.2 to incorporate the updates.

next issue of course, which soundcard? the price is right on that io, but one must research. thats what the internet was built for!

hmmm, native instruments audio 4 dj soundcard looks pretty good. too bad it costs double what the numark io costs.

hello dotvibe,

no, dj control steel + dj io will not be exactly as the dj console rmx as far as audio is concerned:
- the rmx has audio 4-channel inputs and 4-channel outputs,
- numark dj io has no audio inputs except for the microphone in.

native audio4dj has 4-channel input (as dj console rmx), but no microphone input.

if you dont need a microphone input, you can also use esi maya 44 usb, which has 4-channel in/4-channel out, it is close from native audio4dj for half the price.

i have a maya44 for my timecode setup.

its a easy card to use and fairly inexpensive but it has a very low output.
