dear friends ; ive been using hercules rmx for about 2 years and having no problems with xp at all . with windows 7 in asio mode or in wdm mode it just keeps giving a crackling sound . tried a lot of things like : - unchecked the usb root thing - keep installing the last drivers since 2010 ( πŸ™‚ i ve tried with all of the drivers but never works well with win 7 ) - tried with the the headphones ( same problem ) i mean it shouldnt be a problem about the cables caus it worked well with xp with the same cables,computer ) when i use the internal sound card of laptop that sound stops but i cant use the traktor then . how can i solve that annoying problem ?

So you are using Windows 7 on the same computer where you had Windows XP ?

Did you also upgrade your memory and processor ?

Windows 7 requires a lot more ressources than Win XP, so if your computer if not powerful enough, this could indeed result in audio issues.

What are your computer specs?

This configuration should indeed be sufficient to run Win 7. However, there are things you can do to improve the performances of your computer:

1) Apply the changes explained in this guide:

http://ts.hercules.com/faqs/eng/her_eng_00364.pdf

2) You can raise or lower the ASIO Buffer Size until you find the correct setting for your computer. This can make a big difference.

hi phatso ;

I applied all the things explained in that guide but still the same
when i play music it makes chop popps while playing
by the way ASiı buffer size can be used only in asio mode not in WDM mode
The problem doesn't occur only in traktor or dj softwares but also in WDM mode with winamp or etc.

Is ıt becaus my cpu is AMD ?  I dont think so but just want to be sure

what else i can try ?  Thanks for your supports

Take a look at the following page:

http://www.native-instruments.com/knowledge/questions/847/Windows+7+Tuning+Tips+for+audio+processing

A lot of it is pretty similar to the guide I've suggested, but take a look at items 7 & 12.

wooaww what a day πŸ™‚
i got really tired of tryin all these things one by one with a hope πŸ™‚
i did the items in 7 and fouund out the problem in latency happens because of the ethernet card , network and i disabled these but still the same . To be honest in asio mode it little bit helps but just a little bit and also i took off the batterry .
In the ıtem 12 , i tried the hotfix but i couldnt install it caus it says that not suitable for my windows : I guess caus I have the SP1 . And then i did also lots of things but still the same . πŸ™‚ Second hand laptop i have phatso , If you wishh i may sell it to you :)))

Really dunno what to do , I guess i ll keep looking and try to use my laptops interval soundcard with ASIO4ALL or XP SP3 again . Really dunno what to do .
Maybe all because of the AMD processesor or usb . I got really confused as you guess

thanks for all phatso

I had exactly the same issue! it drove me crazy for 2 weeks aswell. So i feel your pain. Ive done extensive research on this topic. Literally read for days on end about it. I can tell you all those pops and crackles are definately to do with your latency. Even though my laptop is well within the required specs to run the 4mx and so is yours!! And your right the hercules driver pack 3 never never did this cos i was using it a month or two ago and i had no problems.

The hercules team claims that driver pack 4 has 'reduced ASIO latency' but it seems it does the complete opposite...  The problem is that our laptops arent designed for real time applications. Macs are however...

The way i got around all the pops and crackles - download DPC latency checker. Run it and look at it whilst you one by one disable non essential devices in device manager. For me it seemed like my cd/dvd drive was causing the biggest latency spikes. And when i stopped modems/network adapters and even my on board laptop sound card my latency got a lot lot better. You also need to change your ASIO buffer size. I have to work at 17ms. Which in my opinion is a bit of a b cos for me at least its noticable when i trying to start playing a song on 'the drop' and im trying to get it perfect. Even if i press play at the right time. Itl aways be a bit out. I always have to nudge...

Once youve done all of the above you need to keep all your system proccesses to a minimum. Close any programs you dont need. Hopefully this will sort out your pops and crackles. I know its a b. I hope the hercules team release another driver pack soon cos it really is ridiculous. My laptop is well well within hardware limits and i cant use my 4mx unless i literally turn everything off.

Hope this helps..

Hi koz ;
Thanks for your understanding . Im exactly in a mood just like you were πŸ™‚  . I did a test like that one and it gives errors on network and the battery so i disabled them both .Then it stops gives errors on latency but the annoying pops and crackling didn't stop .  It helps on traktor i mean in asio mode it really helps but the problem is not only in asio mode but also in wdm mode . While playin a song on the web browser or in winamp as you know we use the wdm mode of the soundcard. So it didnt solve the problemm at all .
I agree with you about the package 4 i missed the 3rd one πŸ™‚ . I checked on the net and couldnt find the 3rd package. What i dont understand is , My comp . is enough in everything in XP but not in windows 7 .
Dont know what to do ,

Thanks for your answer mate
