i have the panasonic ramsa 250w(continuous program input)/125w(rms), 8ohm, freq response 70hz - 20hz speakers. 4 of them.
i bought today the radio shack 250 watt pa amplifier and try out at a house party this evening. the guy at radio shack i could give it a go and if it didnt work to my satisfaction, return it no worries.
here are the specs on the amp:
specifications:
specifications
input impedance >20k ohms
continuous output power
stereo at 1 khz ..........125 watts × 2 (8 ohms)
stereo at 1 khz..........175 watts × 2 (4 ohms)
bridged at 20 hz to 20 khz ......250 watts (8 ohms)
bridged at 1 khz ................350 watts (8 ohms)
total harmonic distortion (@ 70 watts, 8 ohms, 1 khz, with band pass filter)

speaker impedance ...........a, b (4 ~16 ohms),
.............................a+b (8 ~16 ohms), bridge (8 ~16 ohms)
power requirement ............120v ac / 60hz
power fuse....................................7 amps/250 v
dimensions..........................5 3/8 x 19 x 14 1/2 inches (136 x 482 x 367 mm)
weight .........................27 lbs (12.3kgs)

i connected each speaker to a speaker output on the back of amp. there were a total of 4 wired speaker output connections on the back.
i followed the directions and everything and put the main channel volumes to halfway.
i had my ext soundcard for my laptop going into the aux/cd rca jack in the back of the amp.
not even having any of the volumes up high, including the volume on the ext soundcard (audio2dj) and the volume controls for the channels. i could not get them past 1/4 of the way even before going to half and the speakers were blasting. it would have killed my ears and possibly the speakers if i even went halfway. i had both speaker selection buttons turned on a and b.
what do you think caused this?
i would have thought the 250watt amplifier would be slighty underpowered for the speakers.
i would love to know why i couldnt even turn any of the volumes halfway without the speakers being insanely loud??
i dont want to harm my speakers and if you have time to give me your opinions or thoughts on this, that would be great.
by the way, i have the hercules control steel console and love it!

thank you,

Hello Ultrafit2,

On Audio2DJ, you have 2 rotary wheels on the sides, one for output A, on side A, and one for output B, on side B, to set the output volume on output A and B. These rotary wheels are useful to set amplify headphones on output A or B, but if you connect an amplifier, you must turn down these volume knobs.

I did that actually. I didn't even have the volume up on the Audio2DJ. I am having a friend come look at the setup and see why the volume is so high.
