how can i stream music on stickam.com using virtual dj and the hercules 4 mx? ive tried so many different things. i need to use outputs 1&2 for the streaming laptop but when i try to use outputs 3&4 for my speakers i dont get sound unless i press the headphones button on the deck where i have a song cued or i raise the headphones volume. i need my headphones to listen to the next song that i wanna mix in. can you please help? do you know how to resolve this? do you have any suggestions?
Hello,
4-Mx output 3 & 4 are for the preview, not for the mix, the mix output is played on outputs 1-2.
You have 2 formats of outputs 1-2, so you should
- stream 4-Mx RCA output 1-2 to the streaming laptop
- and play 4-Mx jack outpu 1-2 to the speakers.
Thank you for the feedback. I do need some clarification. Are you saying that RCA outputs 1&2 should go to the streaming laptop (as I have been doing) AND 1/4" jacks 1&2 for my speakers? Aren't the 1/4" jacks 1&2 the same as RCA outputs 1&2, just a different connector? I thought there would be interference because I'm using the same outputs for 2 different things. One last question. How can I remedy this if my speakers run XLR to RCA jacks? Do I get an adapter for the RCA end and STILL connect it to the 1/4" jacks in outputs 1&2? Thank you for taking time to read this thread and helping me out.
Hello,
Yes, you should connect both:
- RCA outputs 1-2 connected to the streaming laptop,
- 1/4 jack outputs 1-2 connected to the speakers,
You can connect both at the same time, there is no interference, many DJs use both output formats simultaneously as they use the RCA output as booth output.
Both RCA outputs and 1/4" jack outputs have the same output level on 4-Mx, so you can connect as you want.
a) solution 1: RCA output-> XLR speakers / jack outputs -> streaming laptop
b) solution 2: RCA output-> streaming laptop / jack outputs -> XLR speakers
You can find adapter cables with 2 1/4" jack male mono connectors to 1 1/8" jack male stereo connector as this model or this one to connect the 4-Mx double jack output 1-2 to the laptop line input for a streaming:
Hey Maxdjack, thanks for the feedback. You've been a great help. As I read your feedback, new questions pop up. I did everything you told me as far as the connection to the streaming laptop and the speakers. Regardless of which solution I use for the connection, is it a must for both RCA and 1/4 jack outputs 1 AND 2 to be used for both the streaming laptop AND the speakers? Would anything change if I use just one speaker for sound? Would I still have to use BOTH outputs 1 AND 2 for the 1 speaker? My speaker is XLR to single RCA male but the hercules is obviously RCA and 1/4 jack output. So I use an XLR to single RCA male for 1 speaker and connect it to RCA output 1 (white). I do have a second speaker and use XLR to single RCA male and connect to RCA output 2 (red). So whatever connector I get to run from the outputs to the speaker(s), the other end MUST be female RCA. Would that connector have to be dual RCA or 1/4 jack to single RCA female? If I just use one speaker, can I use a single RCA or 1/4 jack to single female? FINALLY............I picked up a humming sound during my stream. Is that a software issue with VDJ that I can fix or is that a hardware issue that I have to troubleshoot and change. Wow Maxdjack, thanks again and I hope you understand all of this to give me the best possible information.
Hello,
I am not sure I understand what you mean as you seem to already understand process.
4-Mx mix outputs in 1/4" jack or in RCA are mono plugs, so you must connect both output 1 & 2 to get a stereo playback.
If you connect the speakers with RCA inputs connected to 4-M%x outputs, you can either use 2 RCA to RCA cables, or 2 XLR to RCA cables.
If you have a humming, make sure it not the ground in your house which is unclear , in connecting the computer power supply to a 2-pole plug adapter (with no ground bar).
I do understand the process and I wanna thank you for all the help you have provided. I researched this issue up the ying yang and I haven't made as much progress as I have with your feedback. I did everything as you said and I did get a smooth stream with good sound. One thing I want to clear up is that I probably used the wrong word when I said I get a humming sound in the stream. A better word to describe the sound is a HISSING sound. It's similar to the hissing sound of a steampipe that is leaking steam or a steam valve that is slightly open. HISSSSSSSSSSSS! If I lower the volume then the hissing is not noticeable. But then the music is low also. Anyway, I appreciate anything you have to offer with regard to this issue. And if you can help me solve it, then...................YOU'RE THE MAN! With that I will say that you have certainly helped me resolve the other issue. Thanks.
