when i try to bump up the gain in the middle of a live song - the gain will jump anywhere from +4 to +10 with the slightest turn of the gain knob. resulting in a huge volume burst.
the other issue is when using the crossfader - the volume from the 1st (or 2nd) channel drops noticebly for the mix then bumps back up to normal volume when all the way across. my guess is about a 2-4 db drop in volume.
i have the latest firmware - latest drivers and the problems happen on both vista and xp. its running in wdm mode as well not asio.
any suggestions?
first, well need to know which dj console you are using : mk2 or rmx ?
next, with which software? is it the latest version ?
when using any software, be sure move all sliders and knobs from their minimum to their maximum positions in order for the application to recognize their exact range of motion. most software will do an approximate detection, but cannot be 100% accurate, which can create jumps in values when a control is moved as the software will try to compensate between the real and estimated position.
if you are referring the the rmx gains and virtualdj, its a common problem.

as for you crossfade problem, again if you use virtualdj have you tried changing the crossfade options. i have mine set on "full"
its the rmx and yes its virtualdj - havent tried it in any other program. ill do the full gain start and adjust the crossfade in vdj - thanks.
hey guys, sorry aint been on for a while but been workin away from home alot so not gettin much time in.
anyway in repsonse to this particular subject i too have this gain issue with jumps in volume but reading some other comments this could be sorted by turning gains/volume/crossfade set to min/max so will try that to see what happens. i did contact the retail outlet where i bought mine within a week of purchasing and they did speak to hercules and they were not prepared to exchange for another console so it seems they are v/aware of this issue.
to another point, my computer freezes sometimes only 2 tracks in sometimes it manages to spin half a dozen before vdj is not responding shows up on screen. looking thru some of jimmys comments i looked at the latency issue and yes switching network connections and webcam off did give me beta results but still it happened, i have installed and unistalled a few times with not much joy, i did have to restore my laptop a few weeks ago and moved all of my music onto an external hard drive to lessen the strain on the computer, what i did notice tho was that now all of the music is stored externally the sound quality has diminished slightly with some distortion especially with regards to bass.
i use the software that came with the rmx and had no issues prior to restoring.
any ideas guys, seems i am destined to be as shit now as i was when i 1st bought my console.

hello bigbean4action,
1) you can say thanks to your store that the salesman is clever enough to make the difference between a software and a hardware setting: exchanging your console because you dont like the gain setting would make no sense, it is a software setting inside virtualdj, it is not related to the hardware controller, no controller in the world can change the software setting, the setting must be changed in the software, it is not related to the hardware. changing the dj console rmx for this setting makes the same sense as changing your car because you dont like the landscape when you drive your car.
2) you can find a list of optimizations for your computer on
http://ts.hercules.com/faqs/eng/her_eng_00364.pdf
and you can also use this software to optimize your windows configuration

3) dont forget to update virtualdj djc to version 5.2.1 (or future) since it improves several settings, and adds the ability to record your music while it was not in virtualdj djc 5.0.7.
- you can update virtualdj djc to release 5.2.1 on

- you can download the user manual for virtualdj djc 5 on

well, after several days and nights of trying different things - im still having the gain issue across multiple software platforms. ive tried starting the software (virtual, pcdjvj, trak and a few minor ones) with the gains full, minimal, midway. no matter where it set - once a song starts playing and i adjust the gain while its live - i get the jump. the only way around it is to start the song and before i xfade over - adjust the gain and leave it alone.
hello dj cajun,
pcdjvj is based on virtualdj, so it is logical you get the same gain settings with pcdj vd and with virtualdj.
i dont know trak, can you precise its website?
you can test the free demo version of other dj software, as deckadance ( http://deckadance.image-line.com/downloads.html ) or dj decks ( http://djdecks.be ), and let us know if you also have an issue with their gain setting.
