hardware
hp probook 2.x ghz laptop running windows 7 pro
hercules 4mx (latest drivers as of date of post)
virtual dj le (latest version as of date of post)

problem
for some reason, the playback of tracks through my hercules 4mx sounds strange.  i am going to try to describe it the best that i can.  its as if the mp3s were encoded with a faulty encoder and frames are missing here and there, so the song sounds as if it has been time compressed past a comfortable point (you can hear bits missing).  not choppy or distorted, but like theres a bad time stretch algorithm being applied.  i hope this makes sense.

the last time i ran it, i had everything stripped down as much as possible - disabled antivirus, firewall, webcam, wifi card, no transparency on windows, nothing that didnt need to be running.  the problem still persists.

should i try completely purging the hercules drivers and vdj and reinstall everything?  can i do that without bricking my configuration (since i have already registered everything)?  or is there another suggestion?

So, just we can try to pinpoint the problem, If you play these same files with another software (iTunes for example) instead of VDJ, still using the 4-Mx as the audio intrerface, do they still sound "strange" ?

How about when you use your regular computer's soundcard instead ?

Have you ever installed some CODEC packages that could potentially have created conflicts with those used by VDJ (and/or iTunes if you still have the problem these as well)?

I went ahead and reinstalled the Hercules drivers and then tried playback with Mixxx.  The sound was normal.  Then I closed Mixxx and opened VDJ LE again, and the problem is still there - the tracks sound as if they're missing frames here and there when they play.  I tried adjusting the latency up and down and that didn't seem to work either.

Out of curiosity, what audio configuration are you using in VDJ and Mixxx ?

You mentionned having modified the latency (ASIO buffer), so I would guess that you are using ASIO, but just to be certain.

Also, what about additional CODEC, as asked previuously ?

I am using the 4-deck configuration with the Hercules ASIO drivers enabled.  As far as additional codecs, I believe I have the K-Lite Codec pack installed for videos (unrelated to VDJ)...that could be an issue...

...HOWEVER, not long after my last post, I asked the same question on VDJ's support site and they basically told me that the reason why it sounds the way it does is because the LE version of the software uses a low-quality algorithm and if I wanted to solve the problem I just needed to upgrade to the full version of the software.

However, Traktor Pro was considerably less expensive....
