Hello everyone,
I have noticed that when I connect headphones to the 3.5 jack socket, the controller sometimes behaves strangely, i.e. one of the players starts to accelerate as if I were turning the jog wheel. It seems that the jack socket has a short circuit or something similar and it affects the MIDI signals sent to the computer. This is the first time I have encountered something like this. I have already replaced the headphone cable because it was causing such interference, but it happened again with the new cable. Is it possible that the jack socket is causing MIDI interference?
Has anyone had similar cases?
PS. The anomalies happen regardless of whether I have DJUCED, Mixxx or DeeJay running.
Hello Efemgie,
If you get this behavior at the moment you connect the headphones, it may mean the USB bus grounding is weak (on USB bus powered peripherals as DJControl Inpulse 300, the grounding comes from the USB bus).
If you can find a USB hub with a power adapter (do not use a USB hub with no power adapter), it would be interesting to place this USB hub between your computer USB port and your DJ controller, as the power adapter of the USB hub will provide a better grounding which may reduce this symptom at the moment you connect the headphones jack, but more importantly reduce the response time when you touch the jog wheel and possibly improve the sound quality.
Ok, thanks. I'll try with hub or better cable.
Hello Efemgie,
I forget 2 other possible causes:
1) using a too limited a USB-C adapter: if you connect your DJ controller USB type A cable (included with the DJ controller) to a USB-c port, make sure you use a good USB-C adapter (as super cheap USB-C adapters sold under US$ 5/€ 5) may provide a too limited grounding, which is sufficient for a USB key, mouse or keyboard, but too limited for audio devices on which you connect grounded devices,
2) having a power leak on the speakers: if the speakers have a power leak (so that some current goes to the controller via the audio cable), it may disturb the processing of the DJ controller. It is easy to check it: disconnect the speakers from the DJControl Inpulse 300 master out, and test if you still get the issue you describe when you connect your headphones: if you still get this issue, the speakers are not involved.
