Hi,
I'm using an M1 (2020) MacBook Air running latest iOS + latest Serato Pro DJ software + Starlight controller (latest firmware). Have tried uploading this via the support contact page, but just get spinning wheel of doom, so here goes:
Have been onto Serato about an audio output issue, but after troubleshooting with them, they sent me to Hercules. When Starlight's not plugged in, all Serato outputs and visuals work fine. When I plug the Starlight unit it, I stop getting MASTER output altogether from Serato + the knobs for both channel VOLUME won't remap in MIDI. Serato's MASTER OUTPUT VOLUME will remap to the appropriate knob on Starlight, but although it spins, there's no signal to it from Serato anyway – but it all pings back into life once I unplug Starlight again.
Each channel's track shows audio levels (and I can hear them both in the cans) but I can't control their volume, nor is there any signal to MASTER output – so I can't materially hear or do anything.
Is there a fix coming for this, or do you have a temporary workaround in the meantime? Thanks in advance!
J.
Hello Woodyard Crippling,
Welcome to the user forum.
To make sure I understand, you have:
- MacBook Air M1 2020 with macOS 15.1.1
- DJControl Starlight
- Serato DJ Pro 3.2.3.
1) Please confirm a Serato DJ Pro upgrade licence is activated on your MacBook?
As DJControl Starlight comes with Serato DJ Lite, it does not support Serato DJ Pro unless
- a Serato DJ Pro licence upgrade is activated on the computer
- or a DJ controller with a Serato DJ Pro licence is connected to the computer,
so if no Serato DJ Pro licence is activated on the computer, the software to use is Serato DJ Lite.
2) Please precise what it the meaning of "cans" in "and I can hear them both in the cans": does "cans" refer to
- laptop speakers,
- headphones connected to the DJ controller,
- bluetooth speakers
- or something else?
3) "When Starlight's not plugged in, all Serato outputs and visuals work fine. When I plug the Starlight unit it, I stop getting MASTER output altogether from Serato + the knobs for both channel VOLUME won't remap in MIDI".
I am not sure what you call remap.
If you mean you see Serato offline mode controls disappear when you connect the DJ controller
it is normal, there controls appear when no controller is detected.
4) For next sentence "Serato's MASTER OUTPUT VOLUME will remap to the appropriate knob on Starlight, but although it spins, there's no signal to it from Serato anyway – but it all pings back into life once I unplug Starlight again."
Hearing the master output when a DJ controller is connected depends on where your speakers are connected and how the software is set.
When the DJ controller is connected, Serato sets by default the playback in the DJ controller built in master output. If you want to play the master through the computer speakers, you should click on Serato settings (Preferences), go to the Audio tab, and check the field "Use Laptop speakers".
