Ok so I picked up a second hand Starlight to use with DJay iOS when I travel. Also since picking it up I decided to go fully portable and purchased a large battery pack removed link My issue is that the Jogs don’t work in vinyl mode when the deck is playing and I have the battery pack plugged into my usb dock. Any suggestion on how to fix this? I see past issues on the forum with the Starlight when plugged into the computer for power but no idea how to change this to run off the battery
Hello Jonny,
Welcome to the forum.
The vinyl mode uses the ground connection and the ground connection goes through the USB bus power connection.
Some batteries are too weakly grounded by themselves (causing a bag touch detection on the top of the jog wheels), but this usually occurs on small batteries, not on big battery pack, so I suppose the grounding problem on your side comes from an incomplete USB ground connection in the USB dock.
To test if the issue comes from the USB dock or cables rather than from the battery, try to connect the iPhone/iPad power adapter to the USB dock instead of the battery pack
- if jog touch detection works with the iPad/iPhone power adapter connected to the USB dock instead of the battery pack, then the problem lays in the battery pack, and you may fix it in putting the battery pack in your pocket when you use it (when you touch the ground, your body is grounded so if the battery pack is in your pocket, it should be grounded)
- if jog touch detection does not work either with the iPhone/iPad power adapter, and if it is an official Apple power adapter, then the problem lays
- either in the USB cable(s) used: USB cable between the power adapter and the USB dock, or the USB cable between the DJ controller and the dock
- or in the USB dock: what is the USB dock?
If the USB dock is an official dock endorsed by Apple, as:
- For iPhone/iPad with Lightning port:

it should work OK, if it is a relatively costly USB-C dock with a USB-C power delivery port, it should work, but if it is a very cheap USB-C adapter, you may suspect it is the cause of your problem.
