hi, today i bought a hercules 4-mx and i was planning to use it together with my hercules rmx. i was planning to midi map them into traktor to get an extended 4-track mixer with fx but i can only use one at a time. both are working good seperate but when i connect both of them, only the first connected one is usable.
is there anyway to connect both of them at the same time? i cant see why this would not be possible.

if i couldnt use both soundcards at once, could i use the rmx just as midi controller? if yes, how? that would also solve my problems for 90%

i connected both when installing the drivers (newest ones from the website).
running win7 64 bit.

Traktor (and most audio applications of this type) can only use one ASIO driver at a time

One option could be to use ASIO4all (www.asio4all.com) to combine both consoles to make them look to Traktor as one soundcard with 8 in/8 Out. I don't know how well that would work (and could vary depending on your computer's configuration and specs) but it's worth a shot.

As for using multiple MIDI controllers in Traktor, check out this article:

It's not traktor or any other program I have problems with, the hercules software seems not to allow that I have 2 controllers connected. In audio devices I can only see one, the one I connected first.

I should see two hercules buttons at the lower right side of my screen, I see only one. It changes when I change from rmx to 4mx and back, but can't handle both.

I think the only solution might be to install the rmx as pure midi-console, not via the hercules drivers. Does anyone have experience with this?

EDIT: solved it myself. As I suspected hercules doesn't really support connecting 2 similar devices like the rmx and 4-mx but there is an easy work-around, no programming skills needed.

If anyone would ever try the same, here's how I did it:

1) Install the driver package for rmx and 4-mx (the same package),
connect only one when install asks you to, the one you intend to use as mid console ONLY.
I'll use the rmx only as midi console so no need for the sound card.
There should be a way of using both sound cards but since I don't need this,
I won't even try as this might result in a world of problems

2) -Go to device manager and uninstall under sound, ... controller the rmx one(s)
-Still in device manager uninstall under Hercules dj devices everything
EXCEPT the one that says MIDI. This one is all you'll need.

3) Test if the midi still works. I don't use VDJ anymore but this works in Traktor.

4) Hook up your other midi controller,
make sure windows is set to auto install drivers for this step,
it will restore the drivers you installed earlier but for the other controller.
That way the Hercules control panel detects only 1 controller hooked up but
the drivers for the other one to use as midi are still there,
so you can use both as midi console and one of their sound cards.

Simply trying to replace step 4 by reinstalling the software doesn't work as the installation program detects remains of a previous install and tries to remove it completely. I was looking to modify the installer so it would skip this step but simply hooking it up was enough.
I think trying to hook up 2 identical consoles might be different, not sure.

You seem to be putting yourself throught a lot of trouble for nothing...

You can connect and install as many Hercules DJ product on the same computer as you want. Both MIDI and audio will be installed, but you can choose what to use within your DJ software.

The DJ icon in the notifications area will display a number if many devices are present (in your case, it should display 2). This is by design. It is true that you can only open one DJ control panel at a time, but if you right-click on the DJ icon, the menu Select Device will be available, making it easy to switch between both devices

Obviously, the first device detected will become the default audio device for Windows, but this is easy to change (in Windows Control Panel > Sounds) should you wish to use somethng else.

But this does not influence the way your console will be used in your DJ software. You can still select which ASIO driver to use, and how you want to configure your MIDI controller from within the software configuration.

After reinstalling the drivers for a couple of times (connecting both when installing never worked properly) I can see the control panel showing 2 now as you said.
It still gives problems though in traktor, i first have to open vdj LE and close it again and then I can use both in traktor.
I know how you can switch between 2 sound cards, now I can do this but it took me a couple of tries reinstalling the drivers before i could use both.
There is definitely something wrong with the drivers for this config.

So, just to be sure of what you are doing:

- Before launching Traktor, you go to the control panel of each consoles and change the audio mode to ASIO

- With Traktor launched, in the Audio Setup menu, you shold be able to select either consoles ASIO driver for Audio Device

- Once this is done, you then go to the Controller Manager to configure the MIDI.

I use both in wdm instead of asio. Are there advantages of using asio? I find it annoying to switch it back and forth every time. And asio4all tends not to work for me in normal windows use.

I do as following:
- connect both rmx and 4-mx, see the number 2 appearing on the taskbar button.

- open traktor, when moving something on the rmx, the indicator left to 'ctrl' lights up in traktor, meaning that it gets an input, even if not mapped. When doing so with the 4-mx nothing happens. I am able to use its sound cards though.
Even with standard hercules mappings for 4-mx imported, no response.

- close traktor, open VDJ, close VDJ, open traktor again and now everything works as it should. The same standard hercules mappings also work now.

I am working on my own mappings and it's getting pretty awesome, just wondering how to make the jogs touch sensitive.

I find it strange how opening vdj and closing fixes the problem, it is something i found searching the internet.

Thanks for trying to help me, your time spent is really appreciated!
If I can help you help me better with screens, ... let me know.

ASIO, as described in the article below, are drivers made and optimized to use with music and DJ applications, where WDM is really for everyday usage:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_Stream_Input/Output

As for the VDJ trick, it is really quite simple.

Given the fact that all Hercules DJ products are supported by VDJ, they have tweaked their software to work closely with our drivers. What happens is that when launching VDJ, it automatically switches from WDM to ASIO, and inversly when closing. So it is basically the same as manually going to the control panel and changing the audio mode.

And then for the MIDI in Traktor, always verify the In port and Out port assignment in Controller Manager. If you change USB ports, the name will be numerically incremented (meaning that you may have to reselect it to link it to the mapping).

As for the jog, they seem to change term and functions with every updates, but with the lastest version (2.1.2), it goes as follow:

- Jog touch: assign for simply turning the wheel (without pressure) for pitch bending

- Jog Touch:  assign when applying the pressure (don't turn while pushing)

- Scratch: for turning the wheel with pressure already applied (press the wheel before clicking Learn)

Setting the consoles both to asio doesn't seem to do the trick Frown
I can see both consoles in asio in traktor, use both sound cards but only rmx responds to input.

Both consoles are connected through seperate usb 2.0 inputs on my laptop.

Hello DJByron,

1) To see both devices in Traktor controller device list, you must not use the import button down on Traktor Control Manager menu, you must use the Add > Import menu in the Device Setup area.

So, once you have loaded both TSI files, you see both devices in the device list:

2) To avoid any confusion between the 2 controllers when you assign the map, you can them on different MIDI channel.
It is not necessary, but for example you can set Hercules Rmx on MIDI channel 1 in Hercules Rmx control panel

and set 4-Mx on another MIDI channel, for example MIDI Channel 3-4

You then have to update the TSI preset to match the MIDI channel (as the Hercules TSI files are for the default MIDI channels).

Seems to be working now, don't really know what solved it.

I first didn't know how the jogs were working, seems that I have to push them down a lot harder then expected. Is this normal? I can't do a full turn while they remain active as scratch, and the jogs don't seem to like it because I have to push so hard.

You did unlock the jog wheel , as explained in the user manual ?

A certain pressure is indeed needed to enable the "secondary " fonction of the 4-Mx jogwheels, but it shouldn't feel like you have to force it.

Can't believe I didn't figure that out, thanks Laughing

Other question: I would like to know for example how to manually control the A|C and D|B leds.

The codes in the manual are entirely different than what i'm used to in traktor...

for example:
CH01.CC.118 switches the deck to deck C (deck C led burning and the one above volume fader too), even when deck-mode is set to 2-deck (basic) in hercules control panel.
Is there an output to only make the leds burn without changing channels?

Mapping for the deck C button is CH01.CC.F#0 but giving this button an output does not make its led burn.
