dj console mk4 source problems

hi there, i have just purchased a dj console mk4; everything is working except for the external inputs.

i have them both set to phono in the control panel for my turntables and the appropriate lights are showing on the back.

i am running a mac book pro with 10.7.5, the latest version of traktor, the latest drivers (4.6.9) and the latest .tsi from the hercules downloads/tech support site

in traktor i cant select the source buttons, but regardless it still lets input 1-2 through, whether i load in a digital track "on top" in deck a, whereas 3-4 (deck b) has no external input.

in the free software that came with the machine (virtual dj) the source buttons are lighting up but the external inputs 1-2 just run straight through regardless!! is this a faulty unit or can this be fixed with midi mapping?

First, in the Mk4 control panel, in Advanced tab, be sure to the Output 1-2 Hardware mix option is set to USB Streaming 1-2 (Default). Selecting any of the other options will indeed send the signal of the audio source connected to input 1-2 directly to Output 1-2.

As for Traktor,  the mapping of the Source buttons should indeed allow you to switch between the various audio source, but if for some reason this is not the case, you can always do it manually by clicking the arrow located underneath the Deck letter and selecting  Live Input.

Hi there, thanks very much for your info, 1-2 throughput issue solved!
However I would like to know if I can find a fix to get the source buttons working properly?
From my online research this seems like a common issue between Hercules DJ Series machines and Traktor 2 Pro

The main problem is that NI have made numerous changes to the functions and way the Controller Manager works in the last few updates, so keeping all mapping up to date has been a bit of a challenge.

I just took a look at the MK4 mapping with the latest Traktor version (2.6.3 - R114), and it indeed looks like the function that was assigned to the Source buttons is no longer used, which explains why it does not work :(. I've sent a word out to the Development team so that they be modify consequently.

In the meantime,if you want to do it for yourself, proceed as follow (for more details about the finer details of how the Controller Manager works, consult the manual, Chapter 13.23) :

- From Controller Manager, click Add In > Deck Common > Deck Flavour Selector.

You'll need to do this twice (one for each deck)

- Next, click Learn, then press the Source button on the console to assign it.

- Assign the various parameters as follow:

Type of Controller : Button
Interaction Mode: Inc
Assignement: Deck A / Deck B

Once this is done, the Souce buttons should allow you to cycle between the different deck modes.

Hi there, thanks again, that worked a treat. Except now all of a sudden the controller section is not working; i've tried re-loading the mac .tsi file into traktor to no avail. In the controller manager i can select the device, but not at the in and out ports; they both say n/a or if I select either my options are "none:, "all ports" or "traktor virtual input".  just used it at a gig three days ago and it worked fine???

So when this happen:

- Is the MK4 still correctly enumerated by OS X?

- Is it still working as a MIDI controller outside of Traktor?
