i have recently purchased a hercules rmx and useing it to control virtual dj 7 pro, everything was working fine and then i noticed that the number 3 effect & loop button on deck 1 was acting strange--it moves the crossfader quickly accross and then returns, i have tried to rectify without success

Did you ever try to modify the default MIDI mapping in VDJ ?
Can you confirm that the problem occur outside of VDJ using the following procedure ?
Thanks for that but i hav'nt touched it. I have de-installed & re-installed & even downloaded the driver updates but still the problem persists, I dont like to touch the settings as i am not to confident with them
