hi,

i have a hercules rmx which i use with vdj pro 6. the limitation of not being able to scratch on my rmx is beginning to annoy me, and i would like to buy a pair of numark ndx400s. would i be able to connect these to my rmx and download the timecode cd from the virtual dj website. will this work?

if it will indeed work, how well would it work? would scratching be (almost) as good as vinyl scratching? i am not a hardcore scracther, but would like to scratch on the mix whenever i need to (i mix a lot of r&b and hiphop)

thanks in advance for the responses.

Indeed, the Rmx audio interface can be use as input for CDJ and Timcode.

All you have to do is to connect the output of the CD to the inputs of the Rmx, then configure VDJ accordingly.

As for the "feeling" of CDJ over vinyls, the jury is still out,  but in the end, it comes down to the quality of the CDJ. I don't know the NDX 400 in particular, but it might be worth doing your reseach to see if it is a favorite of Hip Hop DJs and their opinion regarding scratching.

Hi DJ Phatso,

Thanks for the response - much appreciated.

I am fortunate enough that the store which sells the CDJ's has invited me to come through with my laptop and my RMX to demo the CDJ's. I will download and record the timecode CD's this evening.

Just another question - if you dont mind. Once I have the CDJ's hooked accordingly, would I use the pitch bend, loop, CUE , etc etc buttons on the CDJ's to control the music or would I still have to use the buttons on the RMX? Could I just use either as I decide? How does that aspect work?

Once again - appreciate the help.

Good to know that some stores still offer personalized quality service.

Most DJ will choose to control everyting from the CDJs, but again, this is a matter of choice (or features depending on what the the units offers).

Be sure to also check out the Timecode configuration wiki to understand what every functions do:

Thanks - I would prefer to control everything from the CDJ as well. I just need to understand if the controls on the CDJ's will be active or would the controls on the RMX be active.

Sorry for all the silly questions

Asking question is never a problem.

Normally, the controls on the console will still be active, unless you decide to manually disable them through the Mapper. Obviously, you will still need the EQ and audio related controls.

Oh ok - that makes perfect sense.

Thanks for all the advice DJ Phatso - I will let you know how the demo goes tomorrow.

The demo went off well. At first, I stuggled with the ASIO driver, but just downloade the newest version. Worked like a charm (with just one deck hooked up).

Will connect them up later - can't wait!

Thanks for all the help DJ Phatso

My suggestion, Get you some CDJ's.
Got 2 Numarks NDX-400's and works great with the RMX console.
Although I don't use then to scratch, you have much more control over your tracks with them instead using the  jogwheels on the controller.
It's just a matter of taste and preferences.

THanks for the advice Jeff.

I hooked up the NDX-400's on Saturday night. I didnt quite like them, to be honest. The loop function is what was the deal breaker. I just can't get the loops to work as accurately as they do with the RMX. I'm going to try to return the NDX 400's today - not sure if the store will take them back as technically, there's nothing wrong with them.

Fortunately for me, I didnt have to lie to them.I called them up and told them I just dont like the NDX 400's and if I could exchange them. They told me I could bring them through today. Great!

They wont give me cash back, instead, I need to buy something. All I can think of getting is the Numark N4 or the Denon MC300. They dont sell Hercules stuff, so I dont have much of a choice as what to get :-(. Would have loved an RMX2

Picked up a Numark N4 yesterday. Awesome controller, but the supplied software sucks. GOing to order Traktor Pro 2

Thanks to all for the advice in this thread.
