when loading a track on the second deck , vdj automatically switch the headphone preview mode to that deck so you can listen to this new track to prepare it for the audience. this does not affect the song playing on the deck designed as the main by the crossfader position.

if you hear this change in your speakers, it means that they are connected tou outpt 3/4, which receives the same signal as the headphone output. your speakers should instead be connected tou output 1/2 to hear the main mix.

thanks dj phatso for the response, i was not aware that the two set of output had distingushing jobs. i do have one more problem i have an american audio versa port 2x2 usb audio interface that i hook my headphones into but i can not cue properly when i am using it. i can hear the track in deck a that is playing but, not the track in deck b that i load unless i use the crossfader.

the principle, whether you want to use the rmx, the versa port or any other dj soundcards, is always the same regarding the configuration of the software:

a) in standard dj configuration 9i.e your soundcard is your virtual mixer)

- 1 stereo output is for the main mix

- the other stereo pair is for headphone preview

b) if you use an external hardware mixer

- each deck uses its own stereo pair (deck a on 1/2 and deck b on 3/4)

as im guessing you are of the first type, be sure that your software audio configuration is relevant to what you want to do.

what software are you using ?

and why do you want to use the versa port since the rmx includes a soundcard ?

i tried useing the sound card with the rmx but when i plug in my headphones i would get a 5sec distortion sound coming through my speakers, i was told this was due to much power. i wouldc love to use the soundcard that was provide with the rmx if i can stop the distortion sound ( it sounds like the mp3s are scratched with the headphone pluged in but not when the headphones are out)

lets resume the situation:

- with the rmx connected directly to the computer usb port

- with speakers amplified speakers connected to output 1/2 on the back of the rmx, and a pair of headphone connected to the front or top headphone output.

- you configured the software so that the rmx is used the soundcard, and that the outputs correspond to the connections you made

- before you started playing file, you made sure that all volume controls are at an adequate level.

with all this done, when you load a file to be played, it comes sounding normal on the speakers, but distorted on the headphone output ?

when the headphones are not being used it sounds normal. when the headphones are being used there is a short period of distortion.

what if yo unplug the speakers and leave only the headphone connected to the rmx ?

could you give more details about your configuration ?

it this a laptop ? if so , have you tried running only on battery ?

the reccomendations that are mention i have not tried them but i will. my confguration consit of

hp laptop and qsc gx 5 amp with two 500 watts speakers.

could you explain what result i would get using my battery compared to my power cord?

some laptop power supply can introduce noise and other problems. also, having your laptop on battery will help determine if there might be some ground loop issues, since it wont be part of the same electrical circuit as your speakers.

As indicated in the user manual of the Mk4:

(Page 9):

Please note that in Windows operating systems, when you connect your DJ Console Mk4, it becomes the system’s default sound card.  The sound card previously set as the default sound card becomes the default sound card again when you disconnect the DJ Console Mk4.

(Page 19)

The included version of VirtualDJ is pre-configured to use the DJ Console Mk4’s built-in sound card exclusively.  As such, it will not be possible to use your computer’s standard sound card or integrated speakers.  A pair of speakers MUST be connected to Output 1-2 on the back of your DJ Console Mk4.

Regarding the first point, you can let Windows know to always use your computer's soundcard as the default :

Windows Control panel > Sound > Playback

Right-click on the soundcard and select Set as default Device.

This means that for every applications, the computer's soundcard will always be used.

However, for Virtual DJ, you will need to connect speakers to the Mk4 main output (1/2).

Thanks Phatso! I have a few more questions that I thought of overnight.  I still have an issue with the sound.  I understand that I will have to hook up the speakers directly to the controller, but shouldn't I at least be able to get sound thru the headphones? I don't get sound thru the headphones.  Truth is, I don't even know if the track is playing because I don't see any indication of that on the software interface. I drag a track to the deck but the counter (time elapsed/time remaining) doesn't move. Shouldn't it begin playing once I drag it onto the deck? And my last question is how can I get the software to analyze the bpm's on ALL my music simultaneously? Or do I have to do it manually one by one? I'm new to this and I'm just trying to figure out the controller and the software. Thanks for your help Phat One.

Before anything, I would recommend downloading and installing

- the latest driver (4.HDJS.2010)

http://ts.hercules.com/eng/index.php?pg=view_files&gid=17&fid=62&pid=262&cid=1

- the latest update for VDJ (v6.1.2), available in the Download section of their web site (regitration of the serial number is necessary)

www.virtualdj.com

Once this is all done, before lanching VDJ, I would check that the MK4 is installed correctly:

http://ts.hercules.com/faqs/eng/her_eng_00403.pdf

If thisi s the case, then normally, it should indeed work right away in VDJ by simply loading a file onto a deck and pressing Play.

If you want to hear the song in the headphone:

- Press the deck Headphone button
- be sure the MONITOR knob on the front is set to CUE. If set to MIX, you will be able to listen to the main mix, as governed by the crossfader.

As for the analyzing of files:

- Right-click on the folder where your music is located, and select Scan for BPM

I also have a similar problem, I cant quite figure out how to connect my laptop, mk4 and speakers toghther.. Am i just supposed to connect the speakers to my Mk4 and just the mk4 usb to my laptop? I was getting frustrated last night because i got VDJ Pro and had no sound at all.. and how would i go around just connecting my mk4 directly to my laptop as well.
THANK YOU

If you've read my previous post (which refers to the manual and how the bundled version requires that speakers be connected to the MK4), then you could extend the logic to Virtual DJ Pro Full if you want to use it with the MK4:

-  Connect the USB cable between the console and the computer.

- Connect your speakers to OUTPUT 1-2 on the back of the MK4, and your headphone to the front port.

Simple as that.

Now for Virtual DJ, you need to tell the software that your want to use the integrated soundcard.

Go to Config > Audio setup , and configure as follow

Input : None

Output(s): Headphone  > Master Chan1/2 / headphone Chan3/4

Soundcard: DJ Console Mk4
