so i recently bought a dj rmx and have experienced issues with the installation. it is the same problem as everyone else where when it prompts me to plug in my rmx, i do so and my computer detects it, but fails to do install and gets stuck in the process at "installing dj console drivers". also i have the symptoms of the blinking lights, so i know its a firmware problem because ive been doing research on forums. however, i received the pdf on how to flash my firmware, but for some reason whenever i try to open the updater, it continually tells me that my hercules dj series is an old version. so, i uninstalled it and reinstalled the new version from the website only to find that it says the same message. my version of my updater is 2.15.0.0 but it keeps telling me its old. does anyone have any solutions to this problem?

edit: i finally got the firmware updater to come up, but now it isnt detecting my console. i followed the steps on the pdf-> unplug mixer-> shutdown computer-> turn on computer-> (dj console mixer doesnt show up or isnt on the processor list)-> run the updater -> plug in mixer, press down mic on/off and hold-> held until plugged back into usb-> updater doesnt detect mixer at all. any solutions?

hello happydj,

a) there is an equipment field in your member profile page and you should fill it since, if your computer is known as having usb bus power issues, we can know it fast instead of losing time to get this information (knowing the computer model name, and whether you have xp or vista or mac os is useful).

checking your usb port is well powered must be the first thing you check, since flashing the rmx firmware with a usb port whose power is too low cannot work. have you ever used on this usb port some devices consuming a significant power from the usb bus as webcams, sound cards or previous dj console series devices?

b) i consider you have checked your usb port is well powered.
if the firmware updater window is open, with your hercules dj console rmx connected while holding the mic on/off button, and if the "info" field doesnt list hercules dj console rmx.
1. disconnect the console
2. close the firmware updater window
3. connect the console to another usb port while pushed keeping down the mic on/off button
4. windows will show its "new hardware was found" message, you can then choose update drivers. (if you see no new hardware message, then connect the dj console rmx to another usb port)
5. dont allow windows to connect to windows update, say no, not this time.
6. select install from a list or specific location (advanced),
7. select do not search, i will choose the driver to install.
8. you will be asked to select the type of peripheral. choose hercules dj console rmx bulk and
install the bulk device.
9. once the installation is finished, shut down the pc, turn it back on and update the firmware with the firmware updater, which must now detect the dj console rmx.

hello happydj,

no need to be extremely sorry laughing, you can fill your profile in clicking on "my space", "my profile", and you have 2 field where you can precise your equipment:
in "describe your equipment", you should write your computer model, cpu, ram, operating system and any other information you need.
in "hercules equipment used" and "software used", you must check the boxes with the dj controller and dj software you use.

for your question on step 8, sorry it is my mistake, i had forgotten this possible issue.
if the screen "select the device driver you want to install for this hardware" displays no "dj console rmx bulk", click on "have disk" and browse to the directory "c:program filesherculesaudiodj console seriesdrivers", click on ok and the screen "select the device driver you want to install for this hardware" should now display dj console rmx bulk in its list.
(remark: the directory c:program filesherculesaudiodj console seriesdrivers should include the files hdjasiok.inf, hdjbulk.inf, hdjctrl.inf, hdjmidi.inf.)

so, to summ up the steps,
if the firmware updater window is open, with your hercules dj console rmx connected while holding the mic on/off button, and if the "info" field doesnt list hercules dj console rmx.
1. disconnect the console
2. close the firmware updater window

9. once the installation is finished, shut down the pc, turn it back on and update the firmware with the firmware updater, which must now detect the dj console rmx.

thanks again maxdjack

unfortunately now there is a new problem
and i am starting to get frustrated with this rmx mixer! but hopefully it is worth the wait
so i followed your steps which might i add worked perfectly.

i followed the firmware flash steps and after i update it and it tells me to disconnect and reconnect in which the lights should turn off at that point, but they keep on blinking

if i try installing it again it gets stuck during the installation just as before
i have tried updating it a few times but with no success. the lights just keep on blinking!

im guessing the flash of the firmware doesnt seem to be working, and maybe i have a defective product?

any thoughts as to how i can make this work?

this is a long shot mate, but i tried to helped someone on the virtualdj website with this matter and what she eventaully did to get around this, was to install her rmx on a pc that had never seen her hercules rmx nor the hercules driver package.

when see did this the rmx accepted the firmware first time, and see didnt have any problem with it after that.

it maybe worth a go mate.

Yea i was originally gonna plan and call the support team instead of focusing mainly on forums, but unfortunately i still am in high school and the hours they are open i can just never call!

But thank you both for your help and patience

+1 for the tech support team, and hang in there happy!  Give them a shout when you can, and don't give up!

I've spent hours on the phone with them, and emails back and forth, when some of the first RMX prototypes came out, and it was part of my assignment to "road test" it.  In fact, they probably have an old laptop of mine, being used as a test machine.  We encountered the "USB Power Surge" problem that Jimmy referenced.  While I believe that problem has been addressed, and resolved for most users, let me give you an easy "workaround" to try, if this is indeed the problem you've been having:

A powered USB hub.  Do everything you've been doing, and has been suggested, except connect the USB from your RMX into your computer via a powered USB hub instead of directly.  A powered hub lessens the draw from your computer's USB port, and if that's the issue (or part of your issue), it should allow you to get past that part of your "hang".

I believe one can be bought for <$20
