hi everyone. ive just set up my rmx for the first time and im getting serious distorsion through my speakers. i have it set up with rca plugs running from the 1+2 outputs on the rmx directly into the rca inputs on a set of brand new m-audio av40 powered speakers. the sound is pretty bad with even a small amount of bass and when i turn the bass up to make the sound more acceptable it becomes un-listenable. the reviews of the speakers all said they could handle a decent amount of bass and sounded pretty good? can anyone suggest anything im doing wrong with the way i have it set up? many thanks.

Hello,

a) If your M-Audio AV40 speakers saturate with DJ Console Rmx outputs, have you set the output volume of DJ Console Rmx at a lower level on DJ Console Rmx control panel?

b) You should complete your profile (My Space > Profile) with your equipment description, as, the description of your computer, which DJ software you use....

Thanks Maxdjack. I've been given some advice from the shop where I bought the speakers, to use the 1/4 inch jack sockets instead of the RCA sockets. I've tried this and it doesn't seem to make any difference to the distorsion. I'll check the output volume later, but do you think it could be a problem with the RMX soundcard? It's driving me nuts now as I just want to get up and running.

Hello Jdead,

1) If the problem with AV 40 is a too high input volume, the output level is even higher on the 1/4" jack outputs, so there is no chance the situation may improve in using 1/4 jack outputs instead.

2) Issues with a DJ control surface are computer issues, so if you cannot describe your computer, the chance a forum may help you are not higher than the chance you win in a lottery.

A) your computer:
What is your computer?
- brand name and model,
- laptop or desktop
- Windows or Mac, which complete operating system  (example Mac OS 10.7.2 64-bit, Windows 7 64-bit Service Pack 1)
- CPU type and speed
- RAM quantity

B) Your version of VirtualDJ
Which version of VirtualDJ do you use
- VirtualDJ 5 DJC : which version number: is it VirtualDJ 5.2.2 DJC or another version number
or VirtualDJ Pro trial version

C) Your connection
- Where are your headphones connected?
I understand the distortion is in the speakers, but if you connect headphones on a Mac built in sound board (in Mac OS) and the speakers on the Rmx output 1-2, you have a severe distortion as long until you set the Mac built in sound card at 48KHz, so knowing the headphones connection is necessary.

D) The Symptom
Can you describe the distorsion you hear in the speakers: is it a strong background noise, a continuous hiss noise, a noise which appears from time to time?
