hi all. ive sort of resigned myself to the fact that this isnt possible, but i really want to be able to plug in some headphones and listen to say itunes, or a movie, etc, through the rmx. its fine using dj software (deckadance), but it seem i cant use it as a normal soundcard, well, i can but just for line out and a line in.  hope that could be addressed in a future software update, but the ability to be able to plug them in, and use the monitor button for normal apps would be fantastic. by the way, i have a macbook pro 2.53ghz, 4gb ram and snow leopard

Indeed, the headphone output being assigned to output 3/4 of the Rmx, it cannot be used with standard multimedia applications, which normally only require a stereo output (where dedicated audio applications such as Deckadance, Traktor or others can use all outputs and inputs of a soundcard).

As for the MONITOR button, it is (as are most control on the Rmx) a MIDI control that can only be used if the application supports MIDI. Otherwise, it has no specific function.

Hello Smookydj,

It is a bit complicated, and you must restore the normal setting for use in DJing, but there is a solution to use DJ Console Rmx headphones as default output in multimedia software as iTunes  in Mac OS.

1) Set the Rmx as default sound in Mac OS
Click on Apple logo > System Preferences > Sound > Output > Select Dj Console Rmx as default output

2) Set output 3-4 as defaut stereo output instead of output 1-2
- Click on Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
- In the field Set Properties For, select DJ Console Rmx.
- Click on 'Configure Speakers'
- In the stereo panel, set Speaker 3 as left speaker (instead of Speaker 1) and Speaker 4 as right speaker (instead of speaker 4).
- Click on Apply, and Done.

3) You may have to restart your Mac, but then you will play iTunes in the headphones output of your Rmx.

4) To come back to Rmx DJing setting
Click on Apple logo > System Preferences > Sound > Output > Select Built In speakers as default output.
Click on MacintoshHD > Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup, and in the field Set Properties For, select DJ Console Rmx. Click on 'Configure Speakers', and in the stereo panel, restore Speaker 1 as left speaker 2 as right speaker.
Click on Apply, and Done. And you may have to restart your Mac to use your DJ software again, with the headphones wired on output 3-4 for preview.

You absolute legend! Works like a charm, and no need to reboot either to switch between the two. Really appreciate that. Even tech support said i couldn't do it...  Cheers!

Hello Smookydj,

Thank you.

As long as your use Deckadance, you don't need to restore the previous settings, but if you come back to VirtualDJ, you must restore the Mac built in speakers as default system output since today's VirtualDJ releases cannot play on the Rmx integrated sound card if the Rmx is the default sound card output in Mac OS (except in VirtualDJ Pro where you can tweak in selecting "4.1 Card" instead of "DJConsole Rmx" as sound card, and then you can play in Mac OS on the Rmx built in sound card while it is also a the computer default audio output.
