Good to see another user getting down and dirty with the Traktor programming! There are so much possibilities, once you know your way around, it opens up a lot of new ideas.
I agree with you that the MIDI profile on the support site is pretty basic, but that's the point: provide the main functions which you can adapt to your style and needs.
As for the modifiers (and MIDI programming in Trakor Pro), I would highly recommand to anyone to first read the manual ( which is very detailed), and for more examples and ideas, the document available at this page:
