using rmx2 as stand alone mixer

how do i use the rmx2 with my denon dn-d4500 dual cd player - he manual is really sketchy on how to use it this way and i have tried everything to no avail. what is the point of having separate inputs on the back if they dont work? i understand that it has to be hooked to a laptop via usb to allow you to toggle to inputs but i see no way of doing this in the djconsole rmx2 or any other soft control. gor it working fairly well with vdj 7.3 but nothing - the two source buttons on the top of the rmx2 do nothing either - have tried hooked up to a computer and even without being hooked to the computer
