My Starlight controller lights up but does not connect to Serato using the USB connector...what could be the issue? Ive also tried updating the firmware but the controller is not detected.

1) Please precise what is your operating system, Windows or MacOS? and your version of Serato, DJ Lite or DJ Pro?
If you use Serato DJ Pro, you must be aware that DJControl Starlight does not unlock Serato DJ Pro so that DJControl Starlight is not detected after the end of the trial period if you have no a Serato DJ Pro licence activated on your account on this computer.
Can you confirm your problem of not detected controller occurs in Serato DJ Lite?
2) If you have installed Hercules drivers, for Windows or Mac, the control panel is capable to provide information

If in Windows, the control panel about tab is like this
If you have installed drivers,
- do you see this control panel,
- does it detect the firmware version,
- can you run an audio test in clicking on the speaker icon on bottom left of the panel?
